Experience tells you what to do; confidence allows you to do it. — Stan Smith Tennis Legend
Bulunga
The onsite school café is at the centre of the TRS work experience programme. All pupils attending Canterbury and Leybourne schools in years 7 to 10 complete a week working in Bulunga and achieve L2 Health & Hygiene, Customer Service and Barista Certificates.
Workplace visits
In both the Leybourne and Canterbury Schools, workplace visits take place one day per term for Years 7 to 9. So far visits have been made to Amazon Distribution Centre Dartford, Fire Brigade Larkfield & Canterbury, PolyPipe Aylesford, Macknades Farm Shop Faversham, Maya's Community support Centre Herne Bay, Kwikfit Maidstone & Canterbury, RNLI Dover, Kent Wildlife Trust Maidstone, RSPCA Canterbury, Wood Meadow Glamping West Malling, Premier Foods Ashford, Whitehead Monckton Solicitors Maidstone and the Houses of Parliament London.
Year 10 Work Placements
Each Year 10 pupil will carry out an individualised work experience placement. On joining TRS all pupils complete a Future Skills Questionnaire which gives an insight into the type of future career they would like to follow. Working with this our Work Experience Co-Ordinator, Nikki Wilson, organises a placement best suited to the pupil and the employer. This might take place for five consecutive days in one week, or it might be one day a week spread over five weeks; whatever works best to grow pupil confidence and independence.
